Cell Sorter

Welcome to the Cell Sorter Lab

The Tiho core facility for Cell Sorting can be used by researchers at the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover, other academic institutes, non-profit organizations and industrial partners.

– Flowcytometric sorting of eukaryote- and prokaryote cells or particles up to risk group 2 or genetically modified organisms up to safety level 2
– Technical support and theoretical advise of your flowcytometry experiments

Technical Details

The Cellsorter Lab is equiped with a high speed cell sorter MoFlo XDP from Beckman Coulter.

At present the MoFlo XDP is equipped with two Lasers:
Blue: Argon Laser Coherent (488 nm excitation wavelength)
Red: Diode Laser Coherent (640 nm excitation wavelength)

For research under S2 conditions our Cell sorter is provided with a BioSafety Cabinet, Class II, 220v from Beckman Coulter. All cells or particles with a diameter between 0.2-50 µm can be sorted. Therefore we have different Nozzle sizes in the range from 70 µm to 150 µm. Cells have to be arranged in cell suspension. The sorting rate depends on cell size and sort condition. A sort with high purity and efficiency is about 30.000 cells/sec using a Nozzle size of 70 µm. The Sorter gives you the option to sort up to 4 different cell populations simultaneously. You can use 1,5 ml Eppendorf-Cups, 5 ml FACScan Tubes or 10ml and 50 ml Falcon Tubes for collecting your sample cells. It is also possible to sort on cell culture plates or slices. Filters for different fluorochromes are available. For example FITC, GFP, Alexa Fluor488, PE, PI, PECy5, APC, APCCy7 Alexa Flour647, TxRed.

We differentiate in following user groups:
1)Researcher Groups from the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover or collaborative Academic institutes, 2)Nonprofit organizations and 3)Commercial organizations
For users belonging to group 1 the first five hours of sorting are free, also the consultation and planning of the sort. We only invoice usage material.

Sorting Costs:
Group 1: 60 €/h
Group 2: 80 €/h
Group 3: 180 €/h

Costs for usage material:
Sheath-Buffer (PBS): 6 €/ 10 l
Falco Tubes with Nylon mash: 1 €/ Tube
